Black Anvil are a black metal and thrash metal band from New York City, formed in 2007 by former members of hardcore punk act Kill Your Idols, including guitarist/vocalist Paul Delaney, guitarist Gary Bennett, and drummer Raeph Glicken. Their debut Time Insults the Mind (2008) was followed by Triumvirate (2010) and Hail Death (2014) on Relapse Records, each album moving further from their hardcore origins toward a dense, riff-driven approach shaped by old-school black metal and classic heavy metal. The band's name references both Black Sabbath and a Judas Priest song.

New York's Demolition Hammer were one of the most brutal and relentless acts in American thrash metal, forming in 1986 in the Bronx and developing a ferocious deathrash hybrid that put them in the same conversation as Possessed and early Sepultura. Their first two albums — Tortured Existence (1990) and the incendiary Epidemic of Violence (1992) — are considered landmark records in the genre, displaying a punishing technical aggression and extreme metal ferocity that pushed thrash toward death metal's extremity, ensuring their enduring cult status.

Nuclear Assault was formed in New York City in 1984 by bassist Dan Lilker following his departure from Anthrax and guitarist and vocalist John Connelly, quickly establishing themselves as one of the more politically outspoken acts in the American thrash metal scene. The band released six studio albums, with Survive (1988) and Handle with Care (1989) representing their commercial and critical peak, distinguished by sharp social commentary delivered over tightly wound thrash arrangements. The band broke up, reunited, and split again multiple times before fully retiring in 2022.
