Earth Crisis are a metallic hardcore band from Syracuse, New York, formed in 1989 around vocalist Karl Buechner and guitarist Scott Crouse. Combining hardcore's aggression with death metal heaviness and an unwavering commitment to straight edge and vegan ideology, they helped define the metalcore genre and the vegan straight edge movement with albums such as Destroy the Machines (1995) and Gomorrah's Season Ends (1996). Sociologist Ross Haenfler credited them as 'the face of straight edge throughout the 1990s'; after a hiatus from 2001 to 2007, they have remained active.
M.O.D. (Method of Destruction) was formed in New York in 1986 by vocalist Billy Milano following his tenure with crossover pioneers S.O.D., delivering a caustic fusion of thrash metal, hardcore punk, and satirical lyricism. Their debut U.S.A. for M.O.D. (1987) on Megaforce Records—partly produced by Scott Ian of Anthrax—established the template for their abrasive, politically charged output across eight studio albums. Milano has remained the sole consistent member through multiple hiatuses, with the band persisting into the 2010s as one of New York's defining crossover acts.
Sick of It All is a hardcore punk band from Queens, New York, formed in 1986 by brothers Lou Koller on vocals and Pete Koller on guitar, alongside drummer Armand Majidi and bassist Craig Setari. The band's 1989 debut Blood, Sweat and No Tears is credited with helping popularize the breakdown in hardcore and shaping the identity of the New York hardcore scene. Over more than three decades and twelve studio albums—including the major-label release Scratch the Surface (1994) and Wake the Sleeping Dragon! (2018)—they have sold over half a million records and remain one of the most enduring bands in the global hardcore punk community.
